Important Information for Parents of Teens and Young Adults

1. Parents/primary caregivers of teenagers and young adults who are responsible for payment and/or are legal guardians must attend the first session in order to sign or countersign all the necessary financial paperwork (e.g., Office Policy and Informed Consent, Financial Policy, Insurance Form).

2. Thereafter, teenagers must be accompanied by an adult at all times while on premises.

3. Out-of-pocket charges are due at the time of service. Please let us know if you would like to put your credit card on file for automatic charges on the day of service.

4. Please note the following policy regarding charges for missed sessions:
-Individual therapy missed with 24 hour notice: No Charge
-Individual therapy missed without 24 hour notice:  Full Fee
-Teen or Parent Group missed with 24 hour notice: $20.00 per one teen or parent or
$30.00 if both parents attend.
-Teen or Parent Group missed without 24 hour notice: Full Fee
-Missed sessions are not billable to insurance and need to be paid before or at your
next scheduled session.

5. The Teen Program requires that at least one parent attend Parent Group. The group is 16 weeks in duration. The group can be scheduled on the same day and time as your teen’s skills group. Groups cannot be alternately attended by parents (at least one parent must attend consistently). Parent Group is not billable to insurance. The fee for the group is $50.00 per session for one parent/caregiver or $70.00 for two.

6. The Teen Program requires that every fourth session, a parent attends.  The purpose of this session is to review your teen’s progress in the program and to discuss any concerns or questions you might have (If family therapy is warranted referrals will be provided.) In between these sessions, if you have a question, concern, or would like to convey information regarding your teen and his/her treatment, please leave a voicemail for your teen’s individual therapist. He/she will attempt to return your call within a 24-48 hour period.

7. After hours telephone coaching is available for teens and young adults by their individual therapist. The purpose of phone coaching is help  your teen with applying the skills and strategies they are learning in the program when and where they need them most – in real world situations.  Your teen’s individual therapist will give them their pager number and orient them to how to use phone coaching by their second or third session.

8.  If you are participating in Parent Group and have questions about the material covered or a message to convey (e.g. you will be absent) – please leave a voicemail for your Parent Group facilitator. If a response is warranted, he/she will attempt to return your call within a 24-48 hour period. Please note that while parent group leaders are available for parents who are in need of assistance outside the parent group, calls may not be returned right away.  Parents should therefore call their teen or young adult’s individual therapist in crisis situations (or better yet – have your teen/young adult call for themselves).  Frequent calls by parents for after-hours help may be a sign that you need more support than can be provided in Parent Group alone. Your Parent Group facilitator will discuss options with you including individual therapy, family therapy or a few, topic specific consultation sessions.
